There are over 100 bridges crisscrossing the canals and you will eventually end up either at Piazza San Marco or Piazzale Roma as there are usually only 2 street signs with arrows pointing to both- sometimes in both directions.
The most fun is to just wander the back streets and find those less touristy cafes to enjoy a quiet cup of espresso without the sound of cars, buses or trucks.
